AST names man killed in Parks Highway crash
Alaska State Troopers identified the man filled Thursday in a collision on the Parks Highway was 22-year-old Nicholas Bertram of South Dakota.
Bertram was the driver of a yellow SUV that collided with a semitruck when he pulled out to make a left turn onto the Parks Highway from Big Lake Road. The driver of the semi, 37-year-old Arnol Farmer, had the right of way entering the intersection. Farmer was not hurt; Bertram was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders.
Two other people were passengers in the SUV at the time of the crash: 43-year-old Frieda Gillespie and 28-year-old Shawn Phillips-Tomlinson. According to a dispatch late Thursday, both were taken to a hospital.
The highway was closed and traffic was rerouted following the crash Thursday afternoon while troopers investigated, AST spokesperson Tim DeSpain said.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this time, according to a dispatch. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
