APD identifies man killed in Midtown hit-and-run
Anchorage police have identified the man who was killed in a hit-and-run in Midtown last week.
Dwayne Nelson, 36, died after being struck by a vehicle in the far left lane of Benson Boulevard between A Street and Denali on May 8.
According to a release from the Anchorage Police Department, the vehicle was a 1994 Subaru station wagon. Investigators interviewed the driver and he was released. No charged were filed.
A preliminary investigation found that Nelson walked out onto the road and fell around 1 a.m. that day. A pedestrian, who was pushing a cart on the sidewalk, stopped to place a light colored blanket over him before walking away.
"The victim was lying on the road for more than an hour before he was struck," the release said. "During this time multiple vehicles passed him and multiple pedestrians were in the area."
Police say no witnesses have come forward about the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call dispatch at 311.
