If you're traveling by air any time soon, you may want to consider this report before buying your ticket. The online credit reporting agency Wallet Hub has outlined 2019's best airlines based on factors like cancellations, mishaps, baggage delays and in-flight comfort.
The organization compared 12 airlines: nine of the nation's largest airlines and three regional carriers.
Alaska Airlines was ranked "Best Overall" in the report, for the third year in a row. Delta Airlines was named runner-up, followed by SkyWest Airlines.
Wallet Hub also scored airlines on specific metrics.
The report found Delta Airlines to be the most reliable airline, with the lowest rate of cancellations, delays, mishandled luggage and denied boardings. Hawaiian Airlines ranked second, followed by United.
In terms of safety, Alaska Airlines ranked No. 1. Wallet Hub’s scoring system takes into account the number of incidents and the age of an airline's fleet. Spirit was named runner-up and SkyWest Airlines came in third place for this category.
ExpressJet and Envoy tied for the No. 1 spot as the most pet-friendly airlines, with zero incidents each. Alaska Airlines came in third place, followed by SkyWest.
JetBlue Airways scored highest in this category, as the report notes it offers free amenities such as Wi-Fi, extra legroom and complimentary snacks and beverages. Alaska, United, Southwest and Delta all tied for second place.
