Anchorage police set up a perimeter along part of Lake Otis Parkway Thursday, as they unsuccessfully sought a suspect in what was initially reported as an injury stabbing.

Officers had responded to the 5800 block of Lake Otis Parkway just after 11 a.m., according to APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad, for “a disturbance that may have involved a knife.”

“It appears the adult male victim confronted the adult male suspect whom the victim thought was trying to steal his bike,” Oistad wrote. “The victim and suspect got into a physical fight which resulted in the victim receiving a laceration on the head.  It is unknown how the laceration was made.”

Police had converged on various intersections in the area, including Lake Otis and Dowling Road.

The victim was treated for his injury, which Oistad said wasn’t life-threatening. He told police the suspect — described as “a white male with a pock-marked face,” wearing a green jacket and blue jeans — walked away after the attack.

Officers set up a perimeter including K-9 units to look for the man, but he wasn’t found.

Correction: An earlier version of this story inaccurately reported the location of the encounter as the 5800 block of Tudor Road, not Lake Otis Parkway.
