Anchorage police have released more details on Wednesday morning's collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The collision happened near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Concrete Street, according to a release from the Anchorage Police Department.

A preliminary investigation found that two men, wearing dark clothing, were crossing south to north on 5th Avenue when one was struck by an SUV in the westbound lanes. Police say the pedestrians were not in a cross walk at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian who was struck was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Speed doesn't appear to be a factor, but police say visibility was poor due to weather.

Westbound 5th Avenue was temporarily closed at Concrete Street after the collision. The road reopened around 7:20 a.m.
