A Seward man is facing two charges of first-degree murder after shooting two men and calling 9-1-1 on himself, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The shooting, which happened on Nash Road in Seward, was reported to the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center just after 6 p.m. Monday.

According to charging documents, Joseph Chandler, 30, called and said he shot and killed two men after a confrontation. The men have been identified as Dustin Marx, 28, and Michael White, 40, both of Seward.

According to a criminal complaint, Chandler told a trooper “I shot Dustin Marx in the head, and I expended the rest of my magazine into Michael White as he was scurrying back… I presumed to execute Michael White as he was reaching for something.”

Marx and White were found dead in a van in the driveway of the home.

When asked if there was something specific that caused Chandler to draw his gun, he told troopers it was when Marx said he would kill him “eventually.”

Troopers found no weapons inside the van or near either Marx or White.
