KGB Road reopened at Mile 10 after fatal crash
One person is dead and another is recovering at the hospital after a traffic accident at Mile 10 of Knik-Goose Bay Road Tuesday morning.
The call of a two-vehicle accident came in just after 8 a.m., Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Tim DeSpain wrote in an email.
According to an online dispatch, 20-year-old Payton Petersen was driving outbound on KGB Road at a high speed when she lost control of her 2007 Ford Focus and skidded into oncoming traffic.
Petersen's car was hit by an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 52-year-old Michael Moritz.
Petersen was not wearing a seat belt and died of her injuries on scene.
Moritz had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
