A fatal crash prompted Anchorage police to close the southbound lanes of Minnesota Drive for multiple hours early Sunday.

Anchorage Police Department spokesperson MJ Thim said officers responded to the crash around 4:45 a.m. A news release from the department at 5:38 a.m. stated a vehicle was found overturned near the curve of Minnesota Drive as the road approaches O’Malley Road. The man driving the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.

Preliminary investigation determined the man was traveling west on O’Malley Road in a blue 2003 Ford Explorer, according to an afternoon release from APD. As he approached the curve for Minnesota Drive, he lost control, rolling several times into a ditch. Police stated no one else was inside the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.

APD has not yet identified the man killed in the crash.
