The snowplows in Alaska's largest city are making their seasonal exit, while street-cleaning crews are beginning their work. With spring in the air and summer in view, it's time to start planning the perfect getaway.

This Saturday marks the sixth annual Alaska Summer Showcase, promising hand-picked travel companies, prizes, and activities for the whole family.

"We're hosting our favorite travel companies here at the Alaska Native Heritage Center," said organizer and Alaska travel expert Scott McMurren. "These are the companies I recommend to my friends and family for adventures, accommodations and activities."

McMurren said representatives will be on hand from major airlines, cruises, adventure companies, the Alaska Railroad, and lodges from across the state. McMurren also said that there will be travel specials, live music and dancing, as well as a food trucks.

The one-day travel extravaganza is also promising incredible travel prizes valued over $20,000, including:

  • Trip for two from ANC to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies in the U.S./Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, or Costa Rico
  • Trip for two from ANC to Seward on the Alaska Railroad
  • Trip for two to Kennicott Glacier Lodge in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, with a glacier hike from St. Elias Alpine Guides
  • Cruise for two to see Kenai Fjords National Park from Kenai Fjords Tours

The Alaska Summer Showcase takes place Saturday, March 30 from noon–5 p.m. at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.
