Fans gathered in Bethel over the weekend to welcome Peter Kaiser after winning the 2019 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Kaiser claimed his first Iditarod victory by outrunning defending champion Joar Leifseth Ulsom. He made the winner's march up Front Street through cheers and applause arriving at the burled arch Wednesday, March 13 at 3:39 a.m. with eight dogs, finishing the race in 9 days, 12 hours and 39 minutes.

"It feels good to get here," Kaiser said at the finish line. "Just the trail itself, it's such a long trail, but to come out on top is something extra special and to see this huge crowd here and so many family and friends from back home, it's really neat."
