Alaska State Troopers are investigating the death of an Akiachak man who was found near his damaged snowmachine on Sunday.

A family member contacted Akiachak Tribal Police after Eric Phillip, 41, didn't come home earlier that night, according to an AST dispatch.

During a search of the area, police found Phillip's damaged snowmachine in a slough of the Kuskokwim River between Akiak and Akiachak. His body was found partially submerged in open water in the same slough.

ATP contacted troopers to notify them of the search and body recovery just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday. A trooper from Bethel responded and conducted an investigation.

Troopers said Phillip's remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage. Foul play is not suspected, but alcohol appears to be a factor.
