A Friday collision south of Talkeetna killed one person and closed the Parks Highway, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The initial report came in just after 11 a.m for “a head-on collision involving two motor vehicles” near Mile 89 of the highway. A LifeMed helicopter was on the scene, AST spokesman Tim DeSpain said.

DeSpain said just after 2 p.m. a single fatality had been reported in the crash.

A later update from troopers identified the vehicles involved were a 2016 Toyota Camry and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck.

The road was reopened at 4:30 p.m., according to DeSpain.
