As Iditarod front runners arrived in Unalakleet Sunday, marking their arrival on the coast, locals displayed welcome signs and an endless supply of sourdough pancakes. "Mushergrams" are also inside the checkpoint — fan messages transcribed by volunteers and shipped to the checkpoint to encourage mushers along their journey.

Nic Petit first, hours ahead of the other mushers. Later, Peter Kaiser, Joar Leifseth Ulsom and Jessie Royer passed through the checkpoint within minutes of each other.
