Alaska State Troopers say they arrested a Wasilla man who went to buy a Dodge Caravan, only to steal it instead.

According to an online dispatch Thursday, 30-year-old Donald Caulkins met the owner of the minivan in order to purchase it sometime Wednesday evening.

Troopers say Caulkins stole the vehicle instead.

Troopers received the report of the stolen vehicle a little before 9 p.m.

About an hour and a half later, troopers located Caulkins and the stolen Caravan on Mystery Avenue. Caulkins did not respond to trooper commands. At some point he got out of the vehicle and ran into the woods, according to the dispatch.

Wasilla police responded with K-9 Echo and found Caulkins. He was arrested and reportedly had methamphetamine in his possession.

Caulkins faces numerous charges, including vehicle theft and possessing a controlled substance.
