Bean's Cafe stepping in to help Kids' Kitchen program
A program that provides meals for kids in the Fairview community will continue for the next few weeks, thanks to a little help from Bean's Cafe.
The founder of Kids' Kitchen, Elgin Jones, passed away last week at the age of 79. The Children's Lunchbox, a program of Bean's Cafe, will deliver hot meals for up to 50 children for the next two weeks, to give officials time to figure out how to move forward with the program.
Meals will be delivered to the Fairview Recreation Center before 3 p.m. and will be served around 4:30 p.m.
"The children and families of Fairview have been helped so much by Elgin's work. We understand the great void that will be left with his passing, and we want to assist however possible," Bean's executive director, Lisa Sauder, said in a statement.
Before his death, Jones had estimated that his group served a million free meals to Anchorage children over the last two decades.
