The Alaska State Fair, Inc. is taking applications for two open positions on its Board of Directors. The group made the announcement in a release Friday.

Current 2018 annual and lifetime Alaska State Fair members who join prior to March 15 will vote to fill the seats.

Members of the seven-person board serve three year terms and set policies that accomplish the fair’s mission which is to produce a traditional state fair which educates and entertains fairgoers and provide stable finances through good business practices, statewide outreach, partnerships and hosting a variety of community, cultural and business events.

Current board members are President Stephen Brown, Vice President Kristy Bernier, Secretary Jason Ortiz, Treasurer Danny Consenstein, Director John Tracy, Director Lara McGinnis and Director Jon-Marc Petersen.

Candidates are eligible if they meet these requirements:

  • Are an Alaska resident
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Are members of the Alaska State Fair, Inc. (either as a lifetime member or annual member in the current year)
  • Have not been employed in the last 365 days by the Alaska State Fair
  • Are not an immediate family member of an employee at the Alaska State Fair
  • Are not living with an employee of the Alaska State Fair

People interested in applying can download an application packet at or at the Fair Main Office at 2075 Glenn Highway in Palmer.

Finished packets can be emailed to or mailed or delivered to the main office.

The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15.

The election will take place at the board’s annual meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
