An East High School student is facing charges for allegedly making a threat about a school shooting Tuesday, according to Anchorage police.

The threat was disseminated via cell phone to several students about 1:30 p.m., APD said in a statement.

"A student informed staff who contacted an APD school resource officer," police wrote. "The male student suspect was identified; he was questioned and arrested."

Anchorage School District spokeswoman Catherine Esary said the threat never prompted any form of lockdown at East High.

"As with any of these situations, if there is any appropriate disciplinary action to be taken, appropriate action is taken by the schools," she said.

Charges against the student were forwarded to the state Division of Juvenile Justice, police said.
