Anchorage police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one man injured Sunday, a release from the Anchorage Police Department stated.

At around 7:15 a.m., officers received a report of a gunshot victim at a local hospital. According to the release, he was shot in the upper body and sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Police say a preliminary investigation found the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between two men outside of a residence on the 1000 block of East Thirteenth Avenue around 4 a.m.

"The suspect produced a handgun during the fight and fired at the victim, striking him in the upper body," the release stated. "The suspect fled the scene on foot. After some time, the victim transported himself to a local hospital for treatment."

No arrests have been made at this time. The cause of the altercation is under investigation, but officers believe this was an isolated incident.

APD asks anyone with information about the shooting to call dispatch at 311.
