Anchorage police seek witnesses in downtown shooting
The Anchorage Police Department is searching for anyone with information on an early Monday morning shooting that happened in front of the Econo Inn downtown.
Police responded to the inn at 642 E. Fifth Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting. According to a release from the department, an initial investigation found that the shooting happened during a group altercation in front of the inn.
"Someone in the group fired a shot which struck an adult male, also part of the group, in the upper body," the release stated. "The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
Police say there have been no arrests made at this time. While the shooting is still under investigation, APD believes this was a "targeted event."
Anyone with information, including surveillance footage of the area, is asked to call APD dispatch at 311 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
