Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan announced Tuesday he has been named as chair for the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support.

The senator says the position includes overseeing things like military construction, installations and family housing. In a statement, he said it will be his role to ensure service members have the resources they need.

"This is an important subcommittee for our military, especially our forces in Alaska. We have made great progress on rebuilding readiness shortfalls over the last couple of years, but much more work must be done," Sullivan said.

Sullivan also wrote he hopes to work on other issues including Arctic readiness.
