Snowmachiner killed in collision with semi near Gakona identified
Alaska State Troopers have identified the victim of Friday's fatal crash as Robin Purvis, 59, of Gakona.
The family has been notified, troopers said.
A person riding a snowmachine died Friday afternoon after being struck by a semi truck on the Tok Cutoff in Gakona, Alaska State Troopers said.
Word of the collision, near Mile 34 of the cutoff, reached troopers at about 2:30 p.m. Friday according to an online dispatch. The snowmachiner killed in the crash wasn’t immediately named.
“CPR was initiated but the snowmachiner succumbed to their injuries,” troopers wrote. “Efforts are under way to notify next of kin. The operator of the semi was not injured.”
The snowmachiner’s body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy, as the collision remains under investigation.
