Telecommunications provider GCI says some Alaskans may see residual effects from a wireless data outage reported early Thursday morning.

According to a statement on the company’s Facebook page shortly before noon Thursday, the three-hour outage affected “customers in communities across the state.”

“The outage began around 3 a.m.,” GCI officials wrote. “All services including LTE, were largely restored around 5:45 a.m. this morning, with the exception of 3G wireless data. Some customers may still notice intermittent reduced wireless data services as we actively work to resolve this issue.”

GCI spokeswoman Heather Handyside said Thursday afternoon that nothing further was initially available on the cause or scope of the outage.
