Anchorage police have named the drivers killed late Wednesday in a two-vehicle head-on collision near East Tudor and Baxter roads.

Joshua Stafford, 29, and Theodore Dickerson, 30, were the drivers killed in the crash, police said in a Friday statement. Next of kin for both men have been notified.

Police said that the crash, first reported at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, involved a gray Jeep driven by Stafford headed east on Tudor that had just sideswiped a black Chevrolet Impala near Baxter Road, leaving its two women occupants with minor injuries. Police spokesperson MJ Thim said the driver of the Impala called police to report the impact.

“The Jeep then drove into oncoming traffic through a turn-only lane at Tudor and Patterson (Street),” police wrote. “The Jeep struck a silver Subaru (Legacy sedan driven by Dickerson) head-on. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither vehicle contained passengers.”

Thim said Thursday morning that neither Stafford nor Dickerson was wearing a seat belt. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed Tudor’s eastbound lane at Tudor and Baxter, as well as its westbound lane at Patterson, in the aftermath of the crash. Those closures ended by 2 a.m. Thursday.

The cause of the crash was still being investigated Friday. Police say drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out as factors.
