Alaska State Troopers have arrested a Fairbanks man they say assaulted a man and kidnapped a woman at gunpoint in North Pole.

Daniel James McKinney, 35, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday by Fairbanks-based troopers, according to an updated trooper dispatch.

Troopers responded to a report of an assault in progress Tuesday evening at a residence near Badger Gas, according to a release from the department.

An investigation found that McKinney entered the residence by force and assaulted a man with a firearm, the release stated. Troopers have requested a warrant for his arrest.

McKinney also reportedly forced a woman to leave the residence and enter a vehicle with him, threatening to hurt the man if she did not leave. He also caused more than $2,000 in property and vehicle damage at the residence, according to the release.

Troopers said the woman was able to escape later without injury and the man's injuries were non life-threatening.
