Murder suspect's mom texted about getting rid of bloody sweatshirt
Text messages Misty Johnson sent to her son, Dominic Johnson, show she may have had knowledge of his involvement in David Grunwald's murder.
Dominic is one of four people accused of beating and killing Grunwald on Nov. 13, 2016.
His trial is now in its fourth week.
Testimony on Tuesday centered around evidence from Dominic's cell phone, including location data and photos found on the device.
Brittany Johnson, a criminal justice technician with the Alaska State Troopers, testified about her search of Dominic's phone and the devices of several other people related to the case, including Misty Johnson.
NEW CELLPHONE VIDEO
On Monday, 18-year-old Andrea Cullington testified she had a video of Dominic where he described his intentions to hit someone on the head. It's a video investigators have known about for almost two years but have been unable to find until last week.
Judge Gregory Heath read a transcript of the video: "First of all it's an indiscernible line. Then [it] goes 'As hard as I can, in the head just to try to hurt him, just to try to f---ing hurt him.'"
Investigators said the original video, taken from a juvenile's phone, was time-stamped Nov. 13, 2016 at 5:26 p.m., which would have been just a few hours before Grunwald was killed.
Cullington said she was at Misty's house when she received that video via Snapchat from the juvenile.
Alaska State Trooper Sgt. Tony Wegrzyn testified records show Cullington received the video on Dec. 10, 2016.
MISTY JOHNSON TEXTS
On Tuesday, state prosecutors showed text messages Misty Johnson sent to a person identified only as "Johnson" and
In an exchange with her former boyfriend, Arthur "Sammy" Larue from Dec. 11, 2016, Misty appears to reference the video she had seen on Cullington's phone.
Misty: There's something else that has surfaced that's VERY VERY VERY BAD!!!!!!! idk if the cops have it or not if they do they r definitely waiting til trial to bring it out.
Sammy: Oh god what else
Misty: I'll have to tell u in person or have Andrea show u. If they have it he will 100% get life. And if I were on the jury id actually be in favor of it even after seeing that little piece of the puzzle.
In later texts, Misty talked about wanting to get one of Dominic's sweatshirts. Larue testified earlier in the trial Misty asked him to get rid of some of Dominic's clothing that included a sweatshirt and pair of jeans.
She sent a message to "Johnson" on Dec. 11, 2016 that read:
Me too. I slept in his bed the night they took him. It was hard but i needed to feel close to him. Does he have any hoodies there? We had to "get rid of" his American Eagle one he wore all the time cuz it was....on him. Ya know...during....
She later replied:
It'd be weird for me to have that hoodie tho knowing what happened in it and knowing where the blood was on it. But I've always loved his hoodies and I gave Sammy back the one I gave dom of his. Now there's none.
Austin Barrett and Bradley Renfro are also charged in Grunwald's murder.
In another conversation with "Johnson", Misty implies Renfro was the one who recorded the video of Dominic.

No im not SURE they have it buuut I have a good feeling they do being Who's phone it came from. (Not a suspect) and the way it was recorded was very sneakish this person out of the gate has been trying to save a certain person who is gonna end up walking. Supposedly was arrested but the name hasent been mentioned ANYWHERE so I think it's all a hoax to keep him "protected" so no 1 knows he snitched.
Dec. 11, 2016 9:18 p.m.
Yeah Brad the snitch f--- who supposedly has an abusive alcoholic father and never has anywhere to live. Well welcome to jail then!!! Cuz dom have a home and a good mom who loves him unconditionally.
The newly discovered video will be played for jurors on Wednesday when state prosecutors expect to wrap up their case. Dominic's defense attorney expects to have his case done by the end of the week.
Jurors will have a four-day break over Christmas. Closing arguments are tentatively slated for Dec. 26.
