With the winter solstice just a week away, one Anchorage group is ready to celebrate the coming winter solstice.

The Solstice Tree Tour begins Sunday, Dec. 16 at Kincaid Park's 2.5 kilometer Mize Loop trail. It will have more than 40 decorated trees for families to admire as they ski, snowshoe, walk and sled past. Snacks and warming barrels will be set up along the trail.

A shuttle service will be provided from Kincaid Elementary to the park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will also be a secure corral for bicycles. Dogs are not allowed at the celebration.

Local businesses and organizations helped the Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage put the event together. This is the third year of the Solstice Tree Tour. The NSAA says interested parties can still becomes sponsors to help more trees be decorated.

The 2018 winter solstice is Friday, Dec. 21.
