A 32-year-old Anchorage man has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

A release from U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder office on Friday stated that a federal grand jury indicted Michael John Collier with one count each of of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

In February, Collier allegedly knowingly distributed "visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct," the release stated. The following month, he is accused of having similar content on multiple computer or digital devices.

The release states that some of the minors depicted were under the age of 12.

If found guilty, Collier could face up to 40 years in prison.

The Anchorage Police Department and the FBI conducted the investigation, which is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Anyone with information or concerns in Collier's case are asked to contact APD at (907) 786-2677.
