Alaska Airlines is embracing National Ugly Holiday Sweater Day by offering early boarding to all guests wearing ugly or festive holiday sweaters on Friday, Dec. 21.

"Whether you're heading home to celebrate tradition or jetting off to a sunny destination to escape the cold, we recognize your journey begins with us, and we're happy to make your travels even brighter any way we can," Natalie Bowman, Alaska Airlines managing director of marketing and advertising said in a news release Thursday. "This time of year, we consider ourselves the 'merrier carrier,' so we love going above and beyond to help our guests embrace the fun, festive side of flying during the holidays."

Alaska Airlines said this is the second year the company has celebrated the day and hopes it will lighten the mood during the stressful holiday travel season.

The offer applies to all Alaska Airlines and Horizon flights on Friday, Dec. 21. Holiday music will play during boarding to add to the experience, a release from the airline stated.

Travelers can use #UglySweaterDay and #iFlyAlaska on their photos and videos and the airline will feature the festive flyers on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
