The Anchorage Police Department is searching for a 63-year-old woman who has been missing for five days, officials said in a press release on Wednesday.

Mary V. Nichols left her assisted living home, located on the 8600 block of Kushtaka Circle in east Anchorage, on Friday, Dec. 7, for a doctor's appointment. According to APD, she never returned.

"While it’s not unusual for Nichols to leave the home and be gone for the day, she generally returns but has not this time," APD officials said in the release. "Efforts to locate her have been unsuccessful."

Nichols is sight-impaired and needs medication that she did not have with her when she left the home. APD officials said she normally uses a cane or walker, but they do not know if she had either with her.

Nichols is described as 5'05" tall, 132 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Those with information about Nichols' whereabouts are asked to call police dispatch at 311.
