APD searching for man who attacked girlfriend over phone call
Anchorage police are searching for a man accused of assaulting and stealing from his girlfriend over a phone call.
In late November, police say 33-year-old Jason M. Chernikoff got into an argument with his girlfriend about a phone call she received. A release from the Anchorage Police Department alleges that Chernikoff then grabbed his girlfriend by the neck to the point she couldn't breathe, hit her in the mouth and then stole $65 from her.
APD spokesperson Renee Oistad said the woman was left with visible injuries and officers were unable to local Chernikoff after the incident. Police now have a felony warrant for his arrest on charges of domestic violence assault and theft.
Police describe Chernikoff as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the non-emergency police dispatch line at 311. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or online at anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
