Croft won't seek re-election, endorses former school board president
Anchorage Assembly member Eric Croft announced at Tuesday's meeting he would not be seeking re-election for his West Anchorage seat.
Croft has represented District 3 since 2016. His term expires next year.
According to a news release sent Wednesday, Croft is endorsing former Anchorage School Board president Kameron Perez-Verdia for the post. West Anchorage's other Assembly member, Austin Quinn-Davidson, will co-chair Perez-Verdia's campaign.
Perez-Verdia says the decision to run wasn't an automatic one, but his love for Alaska and desire to make it better place motivates him.
"I promise to work relentlessly on the Assembly to help grow Anchorage into the strong, vibrant and safe community we all envision," Perez-Verdia wrote.
The native Alaskan served on the Anchorage School Board from 2013-2017, including as president from 2015-2017. He has worked with nonprofits like the United Way of Anchorage and the Avant-Garde Learning Alliance.
Perez-Verdia is currently the president and CEO of Alaska Humanities Forum.
