Mayor's Charity Ball announces nonprofit recipients of more than $170K
The Anchorage Mayor's Charity ball handed out checks on Wednesday to four area nonprofits.
The annual event that began in 1994 under Mayor Rick Mystrom raises funds for local charities. To date, the fundraiser has distributed more than $3.5 million to nonprofits. The 2018 event on Oct. 13 raised more than $170,000.
On Wednesday, recipients — the Parachute Teen Club, Anchorage Youth Orchestra, Camp Fire of Alaska, and the Food Bank of Alaska — were all awarded over $40,000.
The nonprofits were chosen from three classifications: two from health and human services agencies, one from arts organizations and one chosen from all other applicants.
Recipients of the 2019 Mayor's Charity Ball have already been chosen. They will be Bean's Cafe/The Children's Lunchbox, the Alaska Literacy Program, The Arc of Anchorage and Pulse Dance Company.
