How to apply for post-earthquake disaster relief
People in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Borough and the Kenai Peninsula Borough may be eligible for disaster recovery grants for damages resulting from Friday's 7.0 earthquake.
In a release Monday, the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says it will activate Alaska's Individual Assistance Hotline on Tues., Dec. 4 at 8 a.m. The number to call and apply for help is 1-855-445-7131. You can also register online now at ready.alaska.gov.
The grant program is designed to help restore infrastructure after a declared disaster. Individuals and families can apply when a declared disaster damages a primary residence, primary mode of transportation or essential personal property. Medical, funeral or dental needs are also considered.
To be considered for relief, applicants should provide a description or photos of the damage and insurance information. State officials must be able to access the damaged property and/or photos and other documentation.
The deadline to apply is Tues., Jan. 29.
