Alaska is losing another store from a national retail chain. Fairbanks' Sears store will be closing by the end of February 2019.

Sears Holdings Corp., the store's parent company, released a list of 40 Kmart and Sears stores scheduled to close. The announcement comes almost a month after Sears Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The locations from Friday's release are in addition to the 142 stores closed earlier this year, which included the Anchorage location.

Sears' notice said liquidation sales could begin as soon as late next week.

The Anchorage location at the then-titled Mall at Sears closed this spring. Its location in the newly named Midtown Mall is being filled by Carrs. The only remaining Sears retail store is located in Wasilla.
