The Kenai Police Department says 34-year-old Franklin Schrader of Kenai killed his infant daughter last month.

In a press release sent Friday, the department says it first investigated the case on Oct. 19 after a report of a 4-month-old girl in the emergency room at Central Peninsula Hospital. The infant was flown to Providence Hospital in Anchorage, but declared brain dead and then taken off life support on Oct. 23.

After an autopsy showed the child had injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome and surveillance video was recovered from the home, Schrader was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder and assault.

Kenai and Anchorage police departments, including their Crimes Against Children and Cyber Crimes units, have been involved in the investigation, which is ongoing.
