Charges are being dropped against a Ptarmigan Elementary teacher accused of abusing an autistic student.

Nicholas and Katherine Armon say that on May 3, their 8-year-old son was pushed into a wall by his teacher Lynn Sherwood, which left his back and head bruised. In August, the Anchorage School District said Sherwood had been placed on administrative leave.

According to online court records, the abuse charges against Sherwood were dismissed by the prosecution on Oct. 28. The family still has a civil suit against the school district that was filed on Oct 19.

On Thursday, ASD spokesperson Catherine Esary said "many of [the] allegations in the complaint are categorically false," but would not comment further on personnel matters. Esary says Sherwood is not teaching, but her return is being discussed. Sherwood is currently listed as a teacher on ASD's website.
