Inbound and outbound lanes of the Glenn Highway have reopened following a fatal crash near Birchwood Tuesday night, according to Anchorage police.

At 4:07 p.m. on Tuesday, APD said they responded to the Glenn Highway for a reported vehicle versus pedestrian crash at South Birchwood.

"Initial indications are that two vehicles collided with one another and both ended up in the center median," police wrote in a statement. "Both drivers exited their respective cars and began walking towards the edge of the highway when a third vehicle lost control, entered the center median, and struck one of the drivers of the original crash."

Police say multiple witnesses stopped to perform CPR on an adult female driver who died shortly after medics arrived.
