The suspect who made suicidal threats and barricaded himself in a Midtown home following a fight with his mom was taken into custody Monday night, according to Anchorage Police.

Devin Foland, 32, was taken into custody without incident after gas was deployed inside his home, police wrote in a statement. He is being charged with two counts of assault and will be medically cleared before being remanded.

APD said around 3:47 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Clover Hollow Court for a reported assault.

Police say when an adult female went to check on her son, Foland, in his room. When she tried to leave, he verbally threatened her and refused to let her go.

"The son also threatened his mother with a bat but did not actually hit her with it," police said in a statement Monday evening. "His mother was eventually able to escape through a window."

Foland continued to make suicidal threats and refused to leave the home, according to police.

SWAT was called in to assist when negotiations to get him out were unsuccessful, police say.
