This week's Mic Check in the Morning was focused on the local arts scene.

The first theater production of the University of Alaska Anchorage arts season debuts Friday, Oct. 26. "Playhouse Creatures" is a tale that takes us back to 1660 England, when King Charles II decreed that women would be allowed to perform on stage. April de Angelis' play documents the challenges women faced when trying to break social barriers and be seen as legitimate actors.

Director Brian Cook says the play has many themes that are still relevant in today's society. Members of the cast took to the Daybreak stage to perform a preview of what to expect.

"Playhouse Creatures" runs from Oct. 26 - Nov. 4 at UAA's Mainstage Theater in the fine arts building on campus. For ticket and show information, check out the UAA Arts website.
