Glenn Highway crash leaves semi trailer in Matanuska River
Mat-Su Borough rescue units responded to a Glenn Highway crash Saturday afternoon which left part of a tractor-trailer in the Matanuska River near Sutton.
Ken Barkley, the borough's deputy director of emergency services, said the single-vehicle wreck near Mile 85 of the Glenn was reported at about 1:40 p.m.
"A tractor-trailer hauling lumber went into the water," Barkley said.
Responders learned that the semi's trailer had become detached from the cab, Barkley said, and went into the river. Nobody was injured in the crash.
Alaska State Troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said in an email that drivers should expect "potential lane closures" in the area during authorities' response. Barkley didn't have word Saturday evening on whether the scene had been fully cleared.
