The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge says it's closing a couple of its campgrounds so that crews can safely cut down dead spruce trees.

Dolly Varden and Swanson Landing Campgrounds will be closed starting Sunday, Sept. 30 as crews tend to the dead trees, the refuge said in a statement.

"The amount of dead standing spruce trees is a hazard and a sawyer crew will be felling the dead trees for public safety," according to the refuge.

The campgrounds are expected to remain closed through October until the trees and debris are removed from the campsites.

The Refuge Headquarters office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
