One person was shot and wounded early Wednesday near an intersection on C Street, Anchorage police said.

According to an APD statement, reports of the shooting first came in at about 1 a.m. from the vicinity of C Street and West 19th Avenue.

Police dispatchers said passersby found the victim of the shooting, then reported it to police. Medics took the victim to a hospital in unknown condition.

"The preliminary investigation found that the suspect and the victim got into an altercation after meeting up in the area," police wrote. "The suspect shot the victim and fled the scene."
According to APD, the victim and suspect are believed to be "acquaintances."

Police said traffic closures related to the shooting had ended by about 2 a.m.
