A fast-moving Anchorage bear became part of a Girdwood woman’s commute this week after she caught it on video.

KTVA viewer Danika Donnelly said she was driving from Girdwood to Anchorage Wednesday when she came across the quick bruin.

“Was on my way to work this morning down Golden View (Drive) in South Anchorage and saw out of the corner of my eye a shadow next to me, which I thought was a bird at first,” Donnelly wrote. “He was running about 30 mph!”

Alaska Department of Fish and Game spokesman Ken Marsh said the bear in the video was a brown bear, which state officials have seen exhibit similar moments of activity.

“Brown bears can run up to 40 miles per hour in short bursts,” Marsh wrote.
