A male suspect’s getaway from a Thursday afternoon bank robbery in Midtown was short-lived, according to investigators.

The robbery took place at about 12:30 p.m., at the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union branch on 36th Avenue near Arctic Boulevard, said FBI spokeswoman Staci Feger-Pellessier.

“He went in; no gun was seen, he handed the teller a note,” Feger-Pellessier said. “He was arrested a couple blocks away within 10 minutes.”

The suspect, Feger-Pellessier said, was 23-year-old Eyob Imlach.

Imlach already has a local criminal history, including arrests in 2016 for stabbing his father twice during a fight and in June for rifling through parked vehicles in Spenard.
