Pork rinds among Alaska State Fair’s newest foods
If you’re headed to the Alaska State Fair this year, you’ll have another option to fill up on fried food.
Yukon John’s is serving up gourmet pork rinds.
The Sutton-based food booth has been a staple at other local events like the Bear Paw Festival and Friday Fling in Palmer. This is its first year at the State Fair.
Yukon John’s pig skin comes from Iowa and gets fried fresh every day — then seasoned with flavors like Cajun and chili lime.
“It’s a little taste of the South we wanted to bring to the North,” said Kyndle Kirby with Yukon John’s. “My family is from Oklahoma and we moved up to Alaska and realized no one does pork rinds at these kinds of events. So we decided to try it and it’s really taken off. There are a lot of people who really love pork rinds.”
There are two other new food booths at the fair this year — Lucky Wishbone and Bear Naked BBQ.
