A Wasilla man has been arrested on charges of child sexual abuse, after Alaska State Troopers say he admitted to repeatedly abusing a child.

Ian Binford, 34, was initially held on two counts each of first-degree and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, court records show. The alleged abuse spans from 2008 through 2017.

"This was long, systematic abuse," said Assistant District Attorney Shawn Traini, who asked that Binford's bail be set at $50,000 during his Friday arraignment. "The harm in a case like this is unmeasurable."

According to an online dispatch, troopers received an initial report of the abuse Thursday.

“Investigation determined [Binford] had been sexually abusing the juvenile for approximately 10 years,” troopers wrote. “Binford was contacted by investigators and confessed to the abuse.”

Charging documents in the case say investigators spoke with the victim in Wasilla, after she came forward to her school counselor. She mentioned at least eight incidents of sexual abuse involving Binford, dating back to her preteen years, and told troopers that “I don’t feel comfortable around [Binford] or safe around him.”

The girl also showed troopers explicit text messages Binford had allegedly sent to her smartphone. She also said he had sent her links to pornography websites, after which “he tells me what the site is about and what my interest would be in the site.”

Soon after troopers’ interview, Binford called Mat-Su dispatchers and said “he wanted to turn himself in.”

Binford was initially held without bail at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, troopers said.

Magistrate Judge Craig Condie ultimately set Binford's bail at $55,000, also barring him from being in any residence where minors are present or using the internet. He also has to stay away from the victim.

As the judge was setting bail Binford said, "I'm not a flight risk. I know I did bad and I plan on showing up."
