George Ever Martinez III, also known as Lil G, is a fourth grader and rapper with a serious message for Alaskans: Stop the gun violence.

"He really grew up from kind of a perspective where we believe that young people have a lot to say," said George Martinez II, Lil G's father. "They can lead the way, but we have to listen to them."

Martinez and his 9-year-old son decided to write a song together after hearing about kids accidentally getting shot and the recent gun violence in Anchorage. The duo performed for Daybreak's Mic Check in the Morning to spread the message.

"We want to remind everybody that there are alternatives: play some ball, pick up a rock, shoot a basketball, do something else," Martinez added. "But make a decision to put your guns down."
