Justin Birchell is an Alaska-grown performer, music educator and composer studying music at UCLA. He's also the 2018 winner of the Ted Stevens Young Alaskan Artist Award.

Birchell is performing at the Young Alaskan Artist Award concert hosted by the Anchorage Festival Music Thursday evening.

"The program is going to have wonderful folk-like pieces... some opera arias and art songs that marks the twentieth year of this program," said Laura Koenig, artistic director of the Anchorage Festival of Music.

Birchell performed alongside Juliana Osinchuk on Daybreak Wednesday, the founder of the program who works with the late Senator Ted Stevens to create the program.

"Come tomorrow night, to hear Justin and learn about the program and the season and it's going to be an amazing concert," Koenig said. "He has a great range, especially for singing everything from opera to folk to more contemporary music."

Thursday evenings' concert is the first of four events happening during the 2018-2019 season called, "The Troubadour Spirit". It will be at "Our Lady of Guadelupe Church in west Anchorage.
