Four brown bears have become frequent visitors near the Potter Marsh boardwalk.

The bears have been spotted several times this week, including Friday morning at about 9:30 a.m.

Campground host Christine Cuthbertson said the bears were dining on dead and dying pink salmon directly under the boardwalk Friday, but have also been spotted in nearby woods.

Alaska Department of Fish and Game Refuge Manager Joe Meehan said it's unusual to see so many brown bears at Potter Marsh, but added that "the bears are doing what they are supposed to do, eating salmon, not garbage."

Meehan urged people to be cautious when they visit the area, particularly if they leave the boardwalk and walk on the nearby trail.
