Two people are facing drug charges after a police K-9 sniffed out an over three-pound package filled with narcotics in Juneau last week, authorities say.

Juneau police say the package with nearly three pounds of methamphetamine, over five ounces of heroin and an ounce of cocaine was addressed to 28-year-old Chantel Epstein at an apartment in the 1000 block of Salmon Creek Lane in Juneau.

The package with drugs estimated to be worth a street value of $200,000 was initially spotted by inspectors at the US Postal Service on Friday. JPD K-9 "Buddy" sniffed out the package and confirmed the package had narcotics inside.

Officers tracked the package as it was brought to a downtown hotel located on the 100 block of North Franklin Street.

"Law enforcement agents entered the room and contacted Epstein and 42 year old California resident Kevin Leonard. Several firearms were also located inside the room," JPD wrote in a statement Wednesday.

Epstein and Leonard were arrested and charged with federal drug conspiracy.

The investigation is ongoing.
